Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!
You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout
Till you have drench’d our steeples, drown’d the cocks!
You sulphurous and thought-executing fires,
Vaunt-couriers of oak-cleaving thunderbolts,
Singe my white head! And thou, all-shaking thunder,
Smite flat the thick rotundity o’ the world!
Crack nature’s moulds, all germens spill at once
That make ingrateful man!
LEAR
Soufflez vents, à crever vos joues ! Faites rage, soufflez,
Vous trombes d’eau et déluges, jaillissez
Jusqu’à inonder nos clochers, et noyez leurs girouettes !
Vous, sulfureux éclairs prompts comme la pensée,
Avant-coureurs de la foudre qui fend le chêne,
Brûlez ma tête blanche ! Et toi, tonnerre qui tout ébranle,
Aplatis l’épaisse rotondité du monde,
Fracasse les moules de la Nature, disperse d’un seul coup tous les germes
Qui font l’homme ingrat !
